Playing music is fun and rewarding, and learning to play music should be too! It takes dedication to succeed in today’s professional environment, but music itself should always be a joyful experience in one’s life. In his lessons, Wallace focuses on three core elements of music: rhythm, melody, and harmony. Songs provide an excellent basis for analyzing harmony, learning melodies and solos, and for exercising good time, so the student should be prepared to learn lots of tunes. The student’s input and desires help direct the lessons, which allows the student to improve in all areas of technique in a way relevant to his/her own unique interests.

Wallace offers lessons for upright bass, electric bass, and beginner guitar. In his many years of teaching he has taught people of all ages and playing ability. Well versed in many styles of music, Wallace’s particular focus is in classical bass technique, jazz performance, and Brazilian music. Wallace has studied extensively with some of the finest players and teachers in the country, including John Patitucci (award-winning jazz bassist), Burke Shaw (Houston Symphony), Dennis Whittaker (Univ. of Houston bass instructor), Lynn Seaton (Univ. of North Texas jazz bass instructor), Vanderlei Pereira (top call Brazilian percussionist based out of NYC), and Erin Wright (top call bassist based out of Houston).
