Based out of New York since 2011, Wallace Stelzer was born and raised in Houston, Texas. He studied bass classically for many years with members of the Houston Symphony and began to play jazz upon being accepted into the jazz program at Houston’s esteemed High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. He continued his jazz studies in New York, studying privately with renowned bassist John Patitucci at the City College of New York, where he received his bachelors of fine arts in jazz performance in the fall of 2014.

He has participated in jazz festivals, performed live on radio, and played in many prestigious jazz clubs both in NYC and in Houston. Since his move to New York, Wallace has served as a sideman and leader for various recording projects. First Flight marks the debut of his NYC based jazz trio, the International Patdown.

In his many years of teaching, he has taught individual and group lessons at music studios, summer music camps, schools, and private residences. His students include people of all ages and playing ability. His playing is informed by many styles and genres, and is particularly well versed in classical bass technique, jazz performance, and Brazilian music.
